Carry On, Carry On

On a 9 hour flight, your carry-on will be your best friend. It will be a way to ensure you have everything you need and stay comfortable. Remember, carry-ons have different rules than your checked bag.

Day of, be sure to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. No PJs. You want look presentable when you arrive. Shoes need to be easy to get on and off. Layers are good because the temperature will fluctuate. Passports need to be easily accessible.

Make sure your bag includes any medication necessary for your health in MARKED bottles. Extra set of essentials (undergarments, change of clothes, deodorant) just in case your bag is temporarily misplaced. Electronics go in carry-ons, not checked bags. Throw in your iPod, magazines, books, Sudoku puzzles or whatever will keep you happy!

Consider throwing in these items for ultimate comfort and to look like a traveling rockstar:

Travel-sized bottle of hand sanitizer (must be in quart-sized Ziploc or smaller)

Small packets of powdered drink mix- stay hydrated without downing sodas all night. Consider taking Vitamin B & C days ahead of departure to boost your immune system. If you forget, throw in an Emergen-C for a little boost in-flight.

Filtered water bottle (empty when you get on)

Neck pillow- the ones provided are literally as flat as pancakes & previously used

Moderate snacks- think protein bars, trail mix, and items that will keep you feeling full

Sleep mask & ear plugs- it will be an overnight flight but there will still be distractions/lights/sounds
